Stream Reflection
January 24, 2021. Open water along the Angel Rocks Trail in the Chena River State Recreation Area. This stream is usually at least partially open throughout the winter. I have no direct sources on why this particular creek stays open despite being shallow and slow. But, I assume it's from geothermal heating, as this is only 5 miles away from Chena Hot Springs - a natural hot springs heated by radioactive heating from the Chena Hot Springs Pluton which contains a high content of uranium, thorium, and potassium.
