A Ray
Looking north. Two small rays of aurora appeared to the right in the frame.
Satellite
Twilight was fading fast, the sky was getting dark, very dark. The wind made the trees not stand still.
Darkness
The aurora brightened a bit and had some visible structure. With no moon, there would be nothing to see for landscape, but silhouettes unless the aurora erupted.
Long Exposure
Faint aurora over the horizon.
Higher Up
As we hiked, the aurora was growing much brighter. The trail was steeper than I remembered.
Northern View
Spruce trees swaying. It was pretty windy.
Forest View
Active
The aurora strengthened immensely while we were hiking down.
It's A Twister!
Aurora borealis over the Chena hills from the Angel Rocks Trail. Chena River Recreation Area, Alaska
Separating
A few smaller bands broke away and drifted north. The main band stayed pretty stationary in a north to south orientation from our perspective.
Sitting and Watching.
We found a nice little break from the wind on top of a small tor. Sat here for about 10 minutes watching.
Chena Aurora
Cool Sky
The aurora started to diffuse a bit, some longer exposures brought out the landscape a bit.

What's Happening Behind The Clouds?
Very cool activity to the southeast as some clouds rolled in. Neat colors looking at the horizon, almost orange as the lower altitude crimson kind of blended in with green behind it from our perspective.
Diffuse
Looking up through the trees and the tors.
Aurora Overflow
The aurora reflects off some refrozen overflow on the Chena River.
