    July Snow

The snowline descends in early July. McGinnis Peak in the Alaska Range.

    July - Snow

An early July snowfall atop McGinnis Peak and the surrounding mountains. The contrast on this morning was stunning. It was also cold, and wet. We were a few hundred feet below the snowline and only got rain, but it was still very cold. This is a 16:9 crop (good for 10"x18", 15"x27", or 20"x36" print with minimal cropping). McGinnis Peak - fresh snow

Just a light dusting one morning in July and I can suddenly notice every detail, every crack and ledge. Then I suddenly feel miniscule standing in this place.

    McGinnis Peak in the Sun

A bit later in the day after most of the snowfall from the night before had melted. It is such a beautiful spot in the Alaska Range!

  • Locating Stakes

    Locating Stakes

In order to precisely calibrate our theodolite, we spent some time with a GPS antenna on a few of the reflector stakes while I repeatedly measured the location with the theodolite. It's the nice thing about staying out here for a few weeks, If you want some extra measurements for calibration there is plenty of time to do it.
