Grizzly Bear - Denali National Park
The brown bear paused from eating soapberries to look around before returning to the river. I can't believe how beautiful, almost human, it's eyes were. This really wrapped up a fantastic bus trip into Denali National Park.
Early on the Thoro Ridge Trail in Denali National Park a caribou came up over the hillside with her calf and trotted across the ridge for a while.
blogpost: hiking the Thoro Ridge
I had the sneaking suspicion that I was being watched . . .
We were treated to the sight of this blonde grizzly from the bus at the end of another long (but great!) day in Denali National Park and Preserve. Truly, this is one of my favorite places in the world, and I'm so happy to be able to live only a couple hours drive from it.
We were eating "dinner" at the summit of Wickersham Dome in this little windshelter when I saw this guy (or gal) crawling around on one of the rocks. I went approached slowly to get a better view and it turned out he didn't really mind my presence at all. Usually they whistle a few times and go hide under a rock. I sat down, about 10 feet away and just took pictures for a few minutes. I got up and left before it did.
Caribou on a hill in Denali National Park & Preserve - September 7, 2014
August - cow moose
Evening meal time in Denali National Park. I took over 30 photos of this mama and her calf feeding on willows, and then the calf nursing right in the middle of the Park road. That set starts here, if you'd like to take a look.
White Wing Crossbills
A pair of white wing crossbills come to visit us in Fairbanks on a 40 below day. It was so cold that you can see their breath! Wonderful light and snow falling from the trees really helped make the scene.

Dall Sheep on a Ridge
Dall sheep on a ridge
While hiking above the Black Rapids Glacier, we were startled by this lone caribou that charged down the mountain right in front of us. She seemed fairly startled by our presence, after all, we hadn't seen another person in two weeks ourselves. There was a black bear in the area the day before which may have had her on edge to begin with.
Arctic Ground Squirrel
In Denali National Park and Preserve.
Juvenile or Female Pine Grosbeak
We had to make a brief stop on Chena Hot Springs Road on our way to Angel Rocks to watch a moose for a while. It always feels special to get to see these giants so close to home.
Wolves on a Caribou kill in Denali National Park. This has to be one of the most spectacular sights I've ever seen.
